The "I'll ask the questions around here!" Interview

Question time, folks!

Okay, so to give everyone an easy opt-out, you may either
  • post your responses on your own blog, thereby inciting another round of incestuous interviews
  • post your responses as a comment here on Eclectic Epiphytes, thereby breaking the vicious chain letter cycle

Here are my questions in order of comments received. Don't be offended; it's never personal and is often more a test of creativity than anything else. Enjoy.

1. What is your favourite national holiday and why? See, this is a great chance for me to show just how dumb a graduate of the Louisiana Public School system can be: is Christmas a national holiday? If so, I LOVE it! the sounds, the smells the cheeriness! I love to BUY things for people and I love to see their faces when I give them stuff. Children are the best to be around-they are totally un-tainted!

2. You have the power to become invisible. What is the first thing you do? My first thought was to some how get a lot of gasoline. And then I was thinking maybe I could go to target and activate a bunch of store credit things. THEN I thought being invisible around some of the church people. Sometimes I just don't know why they like me. Is it because I question everything?

3. Give us your version of New Orleans - is it all jazz and alligators as I imagine it? Exactly like you see it represented on TV. We all know voo-doo we are all corrupt politicians and we all wear shrimp boots and talk with a god-awful accent! *KIDDING!* New Orleans, well. It is home. It is a comfortable laid back ( hence the name the Big Easy ) great food: anyone anywhere will tell you their life story if you are willing to listen. Our roads close if it sleets, we cannot drive in the rain even though it rains here a lot, we know New Orleans is below sea level-bascially a soup bowl and yet we live here anyway! We support local musicians-ours and others! Oh, and alligators, hmmm. The Audubon Zoo.

4. What are the sexiest lyrics to a song you've ever heard? ( this is a GREAT question! ) I like the Divinyls' I touch Myself. That is the first thing that came to mind. I MAY be back to update that...I really LIKE this question! WOW! It is a good one. Maybe I will post just this question and see what we get!

5. Can you cook and if so - got any specialities? Pancakes. I make a damn good pancake.

1. Give a short review of the worst movie you've ever seen.
Movie: “Down with love”. Review: As a character in the movie said “This chocolate has totally killed my sex craving!” and the person in front of me burst into a pained laughter, I realised that this was probably the worst horror of a movie I had ever seen. It was so pretentious that I later laughed uncontrollably at all the unfunny bits. And the movie is basically one overlong unfunny bit.

2. Tell us about a cool and secret place in your home town that nobody knows about.
Just out of town (on route to the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve) there is this soccer field. There’s usually cows on it. It is very rough and abandoned-looking. It literally stands in the middle of a wood, with trees closely lining three sides. I’ve clamboured down the that soccer field a couple of times, at dusk, just to walk and think. I think its an awsome and beautiful place.

3. As a journalist, what would be your dream assignment?
Dream assignment, that is so easy that I have two. I want to document a trip through Africa. Documentary, print, blog, everything. (A friend and I are kind of planning such a trip, so watch this space.) Talking to everyone, seeing stuff. Seeing the continent in transition, turmoil, beauty, exploitation, and humanity. And the dream would be to repeat the same with the Appalachian Trail. It is the longest hiking trail in the world (2175 miles / 3500 km), and I would love to hike it one day. So, think Michael Fey and National Geographic, and you have what I would want to do one day.

4. Which band/actor/author do you think is going to be the next big thing?
If I got my wish it would be that Ivan Vladislavic gets a huge following, here and overseas. He is a great writer. “The Exploded View” was a great novel.

5. Invent a new cocktail: right here, right now.
Vodka, honey, cinnamon and ice. Shake. Serve.

You guys are the best!

lexi:
We must find a publisher for your book. Or turn it into a manga comic.

arcadia:
I like your sense of fun, but don't think I'd want to play T&D with you - I'd be crucified!

gm:
Hope you get to do the Appalachian thing one day and that we all get to read about it. Your abandoned soccer field is such a vivid image.

~d:
Awesomeness. Some really insightful answers. You have obviously never experienced the children in Pretoria's shopping malls at Xmas - they're not so untainted.

We must do pancakes and honey-vodka cocktails some time, my dears...

GM: sorry, but i've read some of ivan vladislavic's books and i think they're not that great....he tries to hard i think his subject matter could be addressed differently although his use of satire and irony is among the best

D:i love your fav holiday, although i agree with electric that not all kids are untainted

Electric: thanks for the questions, it was tun answering them........and we'll see about that book :p

jy verstaan my verkeerd...ek sien die moontlikhede in t or d, maar speel dit nooit self nie...ek's 'n major sissie, eintlik.

O, dankie tog! Vir 'n oomblik daar gedink jy's een van daardie evil mense wat dit reg kry om my goed te laat doen en sĂȘ wat eerder ongedaan en verswyg moes bly.

EOH, I am looking for the link now, but this is too funny. The husband comes home last night and asks me if I read in the paper about the man who ran over an alligator! He effed up his truck pretty bad...I THINK the driver died...I will find the link and send it to you. I mentioned your question abt alligators and the husband was like: bla, bla, bla...I was like: NO WAY!
